GOALS MET!!!!
If you look back in this blog in my very first post i stated the goal was to build a 12 second truck...I wanted to go 8.30's in the 1/8th only because it was roughly a 12.99...
Well yesterday at The Rock, it happened...twice.
First the truck went 7.97@83...shattering my 8.30 goal...
Then it went 12.64@105.96...laying waste to the 12.99 goal.
Needless to say...the new converter WORKS! It's previous best 60' was a 2.09...it went 1.71 with the new converter almost .4 improvement.
On the 7.97 pass the ground wire vibrated loose at about 900' and shut the motor down (hence the whacky mph)...more posts and some crappy video to come.

It's in...
I'm sore and tired...spent a large portion of the day installing the new converter and welding up some exhaust leaks...I can get it to about 2700 rpms on the footbrake (on the street)...about zero on the boost gauge...it flashes to about 3500...and goes right to boost...and tire spin. Should hit hard at the track...now I hope the rest of the driveline holds up. We'll find out next weekend...1/4 mile passes at Rockingham!

New Converter...
Well, my track outing with the new gear resulted in some better times...60' to 330' was better, mph was better and the back half was better...but the 60' unchanged. Ran the exact same 2.09 that it did earlier. So, my gear change did not get me the 8.30 I'm looking for.....so...I have a new converter ordered a 3200 stall. So, maybe I will be able to build some boost on the footbrake and get some reasonable 60' times...we'll see.

Wastegate pipe
I added a pipe to the wastegate to get any exhaust gas out from under the hood (to prevent it from being sucked back into the turbo). I also opened a hole in the radiator support to allow cool air into the turbo.
This pic makes it look close to the tire...it's not it's angle up do it is just even with the fender opening.

I'm all geared up.
Well after two outings to the track with miserable 2.09 60' times I decided it was time for a change...a gear change. I took out the 3.73 and installed a 4.10. It's hard to say what this will do at the track because on the street it goes right to tire spin in first gear...even from a roll. So I think I should be able to pick up a few tenths...if I can get it to launch without spinning...stay tuned!

Still slow...but consistently slow
I took the truck out to the track again to see if it would pick up some with the boost controller. It was on 11psi with the meth on. It ran dead nuts on what it did the first time. It went 8.62@83.10mph then went 8.64@83.23mph. It is fun as crap and the truck surprises a lot of people. They don't expect a turbo whistle out of a truck that looks like this! I had lots of people asking about it and commenting on it.

Cruise-in
Rust stains, green algae growing on the tailgate, grass stuck to the wheels from weed whacking, Sid's writing in the chalk-like paint...I fit right in with the show-n-shine crowd at the local cruise-in! ;-) ...but lots surprised smiles when people look under the hood.

Gauge-arrange
Moved the tach to the steering column and permanently mounted the meth light in the boost gauge bracket...cleaned up some wiring, hooked up the boost gauge back light.
Then pulled a plug and was surprised to find them black as night! Under boost I've leaned it out to about 11.7 - 12.0 and have been running the meth (I would assume the steam would clean them)...but still have black plugs...I cleaned the plugs reset the idle mixture I'll see if that helps...still runs strong - just a bit surprising as I thought it was pretty lean.

Boost: it's controlled.

Crap it's hot!
Boost Controller
In keeping with my homemade cheapo crap. I put together this boost controller for about $12. It's a pressure relief valve from Grainger with barb jammed in and JB Welded in place. The idea was stolen from a friend of mine who runs one on a 5 second blow-through Mustang...so, it works.

8.66 @ 82.78mph!!
I drove the truck to Dunn-Benson dragstrip tonight...a 33 mile drive. Made a single pass...went 8.66 with a lazy 2.09 60'....so given that my goal was to go 8.30's...this was an awesome first pass! Then got back in it and drove it 33 miles back home. (ignore the 2.09 reaction time...I forgot to turn the data logger on and did it with the tree coming down - doh!)

I'm a street car!
Tagged, inspected, insured and on the streets...bitches!
...I've since fixed some exhaust leaks and picked up a ton of power...it makes a couple more pounds of boost on the spring so now puts down about 9 lbs....and sounds bad-ass whistles like crazy now. I threw the laptop in it the other day and the A/F is around 11.3 at WOT...I'm pulling 1.5 degrees per lb so I think it's still pretty safe and has more left in it. I also went back to a standard 6.5 power valve...with jetting at 69/78 and 35 squirters in both front and back. No bog but I think there is still power to be found out of boost...so more to come.

Did I mention...
That while installing the meth kit a box arrived from Summit with another larger set of squirters. I dropped a 42 in the secondary and was a bit much...a little boggy...so I left it in and changed to a white accelerator pump cam and bingo. It now hits pretty hard from a dead stop. Exhibit A:

Wired
I got my adjustable Hobbs switch today. Got it wired up and mounted. But of course, I am missing the proverbial $.15 part...I didn't have the vacuum tee to plumb the boost to it but I did put some air to the switch and the whole system does work...so road test tomorrow.
