Motor mounts

I got the mounts made. Just took some steel plates drilled and cut to fit the LS block mounts...welded my old SBC mounts to it. Two of the bolts go through both so should be good even if it breaks the welds.

Version 2.0

It's a brave new world. I'm dumping all my SBC and blow through stuff in favor of this...

A 5.3 LS motor. I'm keeping it fuel injected with the turbo. So start the learning curve.

Mutha..&$@#%

Engine number four arrived yesterday...was billed as a standard bore...pulled a head...was a .060 and looked like this:

Needless to say...I'm still hunting a good standard block...I'm REALLY considering an LS swap.

Doing something...

Since I'm still trying to find a block...I figured I'd get something done. Made the T6 flange to go on my existing bracket setup.

Still plays with blocks

Ok so I'm still hunting a good block...the two I got from Bryan both turned out to be .030 already and due to a fair amount go rust in the cylinders could not be cleaned up with just a hone. So, I'm supposed to have a 4-bolt standard bore block coming through my friend Ron in the next couple days...so we'll see what that looks like.

I get by with a little help...

...from my friends. Within minutes of posting my unfortunate find of a cracked block on Facebook my friend Bryan posted up "I've got one you can have, come get it!" So a replacement block is on the way...thanks Bryan!

The downward spiral

Went to start assembling the short block yesterday...cleaned it up scraped some gaskets...started to run the hone through the cylinders...uncovered this:

Snap crackle and pop

Got the short block apart...carnage. Found 2 broken pistons and several rod bearings wiped. Detonation. Only the top halves of the bearings were hurt so it was certainly preignition.

Winterfresh gum

Well the truck is being freshened over the winter...weather was nice enough today for me to snatch the engine out of it.

I pulled the pan...so far I like what I see...it's a 4 bolt and appears to have the heavy duty rods. (they have the large pads where the bolts go through).

So far everything looks good...no damage.

GOALS MET!!!!

If you look back in this blog in my very first post i stated the goal was to build a 12 second truck...I wanted to go 8.30's in the 1/8th only because it was roughly a 12.99...

Well yesterday at The Rock, it happened...twice.

First the truck went 7.97@83...shattering my 8.30 goal...

Then it went 12.64@105.96...laying waste to the 12.99 goal.

Needless to say...the new converter WORKS! It's previous best 60' was a 2.09...it went 1.71 with the new converter almost .4 improvement.

On the 7.97 pass the ground wire vibrated loose at about 900' and shut the motor down (hence the whacky mph)...more posts and some crappy video to come.
